Yoga for Your body and Your mind-Eye

Melanie Sharman

A summary
This class is for all who would like to practice yoga with its core elements of movement, breathing exercises and relaxation practices. We usually start off with a gentle warm up of the muscles and joints that we're going to use in the session ahead. Conscious breathing will be encouraged throughout every class and some dynamic movement allow to explore a flow like practice in the students own rhythm.
We pay attention to our bodies throughout the practice, always looking for the benefit and 'feel good' factor in each pose. We are thriving to enjoy the journey of the breath through our bodies whilst moving with lightness and ease.
Towards the end we put our minds and bodies to rest for a relaxation practice, often a body-scan and/or a visualisation.
All levels are welcome.

I fell in love with yoga in the 90s when I first stepped onto the mat — long before I ever imagined I would teach it. The breath, the curiosity, the strange-but-familiar feeling of coming home to my own body… it stayed with me through every season of my life. Years later, after moving to Suffolk and becoming a mum, everything shifted again. Watching my children grow up in a world of screens, fast dopamine, endless comparison and pressure to perform… this is where the teaching seed truly took root. I wanted to create experiences that brought children (and their adults) back into presence, imagination, relationship and embodied play. I trained as a Toddler & Preschool Yoga Teacher with Amy Yoga in 2021 and have been teaching children since January 2022. Another shift came while studying with the British Wheel of Yoga for the Diploma. My mother in Germany needed increasingly more support — grief after losing her husband of nearly 50 years, the emotional disorientation of Covid and short-term memory changes emerging. Teaching yoga to her through a screen completely changed how I saw technology. It became a bridge, not a barrier. I watched her mood, perspective and sense of the day shift through simple guided movement, breath and connection. This experience opened my path into adult yoga more deeply — and the possibility of bringing yoga not only to studios, but to homes, care settings, families, and communities where the body and mind both need belonging, mobility, resilience and hope. Ma Durga Yoga now stands for yoga as lifelong development. Yoga that supports brain-movement-breath integration. Yoga that builds confidence and resilience at every age. I have a deep passion for self-study, continuing education, anatomy and evidence-based practice. You’ll find my sessions playful, rhythmic, story-infused and always rooted in nervous system safety and accessible science across youth yoga, intergenerational yoga, aging populations & trapeze yoga — while still honouring yoga as a practice of meaning, philosophy and growth. I believe yoga can feel good… and do good… across the generations.
