Introduction To Bread Making

The Artisan Bakehouse

A summary
This workshop is designed for people who have never baked bread before, those that have dabbled a bit with varying degrees of success and for regular bread makers that would like to learn more about the skills, techniques and science involved in bread making.
We make an Italian focaccia using authentic Italian 00 flour, a French baguette using authentic French T55 flour, a regular seeded or walnut organic white artisan loaf and spelt rolls. The breads will be baked in our traditional wood fired oven or Rofco Oven.
Learn about different wheats and flours, yeasts, kneading techniques, how to shape dough and how to bake fantastically delicious bread that means you'll never have to buy supermarket bread ever again!
The workshop starts promptly at 10am (Arrive anytime from 9.30am for tea/coffee and homemade cookies) and will run through until 3.30/4pm and includes refreshments, a homemade set two-course lunch with wine, beer or soft drinks and tea/coffee to finish.
There is no need to bring anything with you as everything you need for the day is provided and you will take home all the bread that you have made together with the recipes and instructions.

The Artisan Bakehouse
The Artisan Bakehouse
This workshop is run by Artisan Bakehouse owner/partner and baker Les. Les is Sussex born and bred. Originally from Brighton, he’s lived all his life in Sussex with the exception of an 8-year stay in rural south-west France. Here he developed his love of all things bread. After mastering the French language (that’s another story!) he went on to train and learn traditional artisan bread making skills and has developed a huge passion for making bread by traditional artisan methods. We support and are members of 'The Real Bread Campaign'. ---------------------- The Artisan Bakehouse is an independent family-owned and run business; the passion and vision of husband and wife team Les & Louise Nicholson. The Artisan Bakehouse comprises beautiful 16th-century cottages, pretty gardens & woodlands. Our vision has always been to embrace the tranquil location here and to create an experience where people can learn to make delicious bread & foods and to spend time enjoying local seasonal Sussex produce, relaxing and restoring themselves in this idyllic location. We look forward to meeting you personally and together with our friendly and dedicated team, will do all we can to make sure your time here is special and memorable. We fell in love with this magical place and never want to leave: we want you to feel the same too!
