What we'll do
The perfect class to come to with your child and learn to sew together! In this class we take you through how to thread up and use a sewing machine before making a rucksack that you can customise and take away with you at the end of the day. All materials are included in the cost of this class (Suitable for kids aged 7-15) and one space covers 1 parent and 1 child and all your materials. What to bring: You don’t have to bring anything to this class as everything is provided for you. This class is suitable for absolute beginners as we are taking you through the sewing machine basics. However it is also a nice experience for you and your child even if one or both of you already has some sewing experience. Please note- This session is a group activity for up to 8 people sewing in total. It is not individual tuition so children must be comfortable learning in a group setting.
About your mentor
Marina at Moda Fashion Club
Stitching dreams into reality
I was born in Spain and moved to England more than 20 years ago. I first fall in love with Fashion when I was 15 customising my mum's clothes until I gained a degree in Fashion Design and Pattern Cutting in the UK. Classes placed at the House of Culture in Brighton.
Our mission
Welcome to Moda Fashion Club, a lively and delightful club where your children will explore their creativity and imagination through fashion! Led by Marina, a certified Level 3 Early Years Educator with a degree in Fashion Design and more than 11 years of experience working with children, Moda Fashion Club is the perfect place for your child (and adults too!) to learn how to sew and have fun.
Learning aims
Aim 1
To learn to sew
Aim 2
To learn how to use a sewing machine including safety precautions
Aim 3
Expand your creativity. To be able to create your own designs, leading to sew tote bags and eventually your own clothes
-Can we bring our own fabric to the Parent and Child class? Although materials are provided for both of you in this class you can bring your own fabric if you would like. Just bring along 2m of non stretch fabric(nothing slippy or see through). -My child has done sewing at school will the Parent and Child Class be too easy for them? It depends what they have done at school. In our experience kids enjoy doing something creative with their parent/guardian which means the actual project at hand isn't always the main focus. Tote bag are good fun to make even if you're an experienced sew-er and they are so useful! -Do you have a minimum age for the Parent and Child Class? In our kids classes the youngest we can take is from age 8 upwards for insurance purposes however if you child is younger as you will be with them to supervise we may allow younger than 8. You will be asked to sign a form to say you will take responsibility for them using the machine. Get in touch if you're not sure.
