What we'll do
This day is an introduction to alternative photography. All materials will be provided but you may also wish to bring your own traditional camera or mobile phone to capture some of the more ephemeral images that we create throughout the day. With the guidance of the workshop leader, we will learn to look at nature in a different way. Starting by making nature frames and investigating shadow pictures. We will then collect wild plants and process them to make out own light sensitive paper to use later in the day. Next you will learn how to construct and investigate your own camera obscura. We will make stacks, spirals and other designs using natural materials and investigate photographing things and using our camera obscurers at unusual angles. Cyanotype prints are delicate and beautiful. You will have the opportunity to try out using this resource to create your own prints. After lunch, the light sensitive paper that we created in the morning will be ready for us to use for our anthotype pictures. We will investigate picture compositions for landscapes and portraits. Finally, there will be the opportunity to investigate lumen printing and construct our solargraphs. Drinks and cake will be provided.
About your mentor
Helyk Homesteading

From days out as a child with my grandfather, I have been learning about survival, the countryside and resilience.
