What we'll do
Washington Athletic Youth Football Club (YFC) runs a welcoming and inclusive holiday programme under the Children and Young People Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Scheme. A typical day at the club during a holiday is structured to balance physical activity, social interaction, and nutrition, ensuring both engagement and wellbeing for children and young people. Morning Arrival and Registration Children arrive at the club in the morning and are greeted by staff. Attendance is recorded, and participants settle in, often taking part in light warm-up games to energize for the day. Physical Activities The core part of the day focuses on sports and recreational activities. Though primarily football-focused, activities cater to all abilities, emphasizing fun, teamwork, and skill development. Sessions are generally led by qualified coaches who supervise drills, small-sided games, and friendly competitions. Adapted games may be offered to ensure inclusivity, so every participant, regardless of skill level, can enjoy the session. Educational and Creative Engagement Between sports sessions, children may engage in creative or educational workshops, including arts and crafts, teamwork exercises, and interactive learning games. These activities are designed to balance physical exertion with cognitive stimulation. Snack and Hydration Breaks Short breaks are scheduled mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Children are encouraged to hydrate and may receive light snacks to maintain energy levels. Lunch and Food Provision A nutritious meal is provided, in line with HAF programme standards. Menus typically include balanced options such as sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, and dairy, ensuring children receive sufficient energy to participate in afternoon activities. Special dietary requirements are accommodated to ensure that all children have access to suitable meal choices. Afternoon Activities After lunch, children continue with structured sports or recreational activities. Team games, skill challenges, and cooperative exercises help reinforce social skills and the sporting techniques introduced earlier. Cool-Down and Reflection Late in the afternoon, activities wind down with stretching, reflection sessions, or light individual games. Coaches may discuss teamwork, sportsmanship, and daily achievements with the participants. Departure Children are collected by parents or guardians at the designated time. Staff provide daily feedback and communicate any notable accomplishments or observations. Overall Atmosphere The club fosters a friendly, inclusive, and supportive environment. Children feel welcomed regardless of their abilities, encouraging confidence, enjoyment, and social engagement throughout the holiday period. This schedule balances structured physical activity, creative engagement, and nutritious food provision, offering a safe and enriching experience for youth attending Washington Athletic YFC during holidays.

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
