What we'll do

The Capoeira Summer School is a high-energy holiday club. Children will have the chance to learn the unique and exciting Afro-Brazilian martial art: Capoeira - which combines self-defence, dance, acrobatics, instrumental playing and singing. Each day starts with a stretch and warm-up, followed by active games during which children will learn the core movements of capoeira. After a quick break, we will focus on specific elements of capoeira, such as the acrobatics or attack/defence movements. The course is suitable for complete beginners and those with experience, so we sometimes divide into groups according to experience levels. After lunch children will learn the unique instruments - including berimbaus, drums and range of hand percussion. Over the course there will also be the opportunity to make an instrument and take part in drawing sessions.

UINCAP aims to enhance the physical and emotional wellbeing of children and families through the provision of capoeira, dance, music, visual arts and structured play.

Meals

Hot lunches are provided each day, and the menu includes: Pasta with tomato sauce and garlic bread Jacket Potatoes with Chili con Carne, beans or cheese and salad Oven-cooked chicken or vegan sausages with rice and vegetables Chicken or vegan hot dogs, with salad Mac n Cheese, vegan pasta or lasagne (Meet is Halal and any allergies will be accounted for)

Eligibility Criteria

Lambeth HAF-funded places are for children and young people in reception to year 11 who receive benefits-related free school meals and attend a school in Lambeth. (Please note, this is different to universal free school meals that are available to all school-aged children). Each child can book up to 16 sessions this summer with any provider.
