A summary

During this small group workshop, you will create your own unique textural mini-weaving of a tree, ready to take home and hang on a wall, or give as a gift! This workshop serves as a great introduction to weaving for complete beginners and as a second step for those with some weaving experience.

I will teach you needle weaving, knotting, 'soumak' technique and other textural effects. We will also look at a variety of ways to finish off your weaving.

Weaving materials and equipment are provided. Different yarns and materials will be available to experiment with.

It would be helpful if you could bring your own small scissors, an old dining fork, a 30cm ruler and a pencil. You may also want to bring your own sticks, yarns etc. to include in the weave.

Materials and equipment are also available to purchase if you wish to continue weaving at home.

Jackietapestry

Jackie teaches weaving as an art form, exhibits and undertakes commissions internationally. She has been weaving for over 20 years and teaching for 12 years. Jackie started weaving on small frames whilst on an Art and Design Foundation Course. She then studied African and Asian Art and Archaeology at SOAS, London University. She completed a Post-graduate Diploma in Tapestry Weaving, at West Dean College in 1997 and continues to work in weave, sometimes including embroidery and felt-making. She is a member of the British Tapestry Group, which promotes contemporary tapestry weaving in the UK, and the East Sussex Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. “Tapestry weaving is definitely a slow art. It is also very rewarding as the process of weaving has a calming effect, using colour and texture in a direct, hands-on and creative way. Through my workshops I like to encourage individual expression and the help personality of each weaver to come through”
