Tree ID Walk & Talk

"When you're out walking, have you ever looked at a tree, and thought,"which tree is that?"

Spring sees the countryside bursting with colour and life. The dormant buds of our trees transform with leaves, flowers and catkins emerging. There's a lot to take in. Tree flowers come in all shapes and sizes, and some are so small you could walk right by them. But if we look closer we can understand the clues trees give us to unlock their identity and so much more. Like autumn this is a period of dramatic change. It's a really fascinating time to be out in the woods.

On this half-day course, we’ll show you how to identify trees in spring by looking at young leaves, flowers, catkins and other clues. We’ll also look at the different uses that trees have, their place in the ecosystem and dive into the woodland folklore of trees and nature. You will also take away a Spring Tree ID Guide, which is perfect for continuing your learning and practising tree ID after the course is done.

Your guide on this journey will be James, who has worked for many years in and around trees from managing the largest Community Woodland in Wales (300 acres, no less) to introducing children to the wonder of woods with his Forest School work. James has also introduced thousands of students to the subject of tree identification through his popular online programme The Complete Tree ID Course."

12.30 - 1400 - Ged and Froo welcome you to stay for lunch and refreshments around the campfire - a valuable opportunity to network with other Forest School leaders and outdoor practitioners in the area.

- Appropriate clothing for the time of year, waterproofs etc..
- Walking shoes or wellies
- A thermal.mug/flask for brews around the fire or to take with you on the walk.
- A (optional) camping chair if you need to sit more comfortably around the fire. You can secure your chair in the work's van when you are on your walk.
