The Way of the Horse

Transforming lives through horses and nature

The Way of the Horse

The Way of the Horse is an award-winning community organisation based on a smallholding in rural Lincolnshire, celebrating over 11 years of supporting children, young people and families through meaningful outdoor experiences. Our Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme provides a unique opportunity for children to connect with horses, nature and each other while developing confidence, resilience and practical life skills. Every session combines outdoor learning, physical activity, food education and creative experiences in a safe, nurturing environment. Children take part in caring for the horses, gardening, growing and harvesting produce, cooking simple healthy meals, nature-based crafts and hands-on activities that encourage teamwork, curiosity and independence. Through our 'Seed to Plate' approach, children learn where food comes from and develop a greater appreciation for healthy eating and caring for the environment. Our approach is trauma-informed and underpinned by Somatic Experiencing principles, creating a calm, inclusive space where every child is supported to participate at their own pace. We believe that time spent outdoors, alongside horses and in nature, provides powerful opportunities for learning, emotional wellbeing and personal growth. At The Way of the Horse, we don't just provide activities—we create experiences that children remember, helping them build confidence, develop new skills and leave with a sense of achievement, connection and belonging.
