A summary

Our days always begin with tea, coffee and cakes, provided by Alison at The Oast Bakery, while we get to know each other.

Then we can get on with choosing and cutting the fabrics for our zip purse. You will be taught how to understand the qualities of different fabrics, the grain of the fabric and how to cut accurately, as well as how to insert a zip and lining perfectly.

We will assemble the zip purse, learning how to sew straight lines, turn corners accurately and finish the purse professionally with a lining.

We have a large selection of fabric remnants for you to choose from, but if you'd like to bring your own, a medium weight cotton or linen is easiest to work with for the outer fabric and a lightweight cotton works best for the lining.
Please avoid velvet or any fabric with a nap.
We will also have a small selection of fabric available to buy on the day.
All other materials are provided.

You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you would like to, or use one of ours.

From Sutura Workshops

Annabelle Davis @ The Oast Studio

I have always believed in the value of learning with our hands. More and more, we live in a world where anything and everything can be obtained at the touch of a button or the swipe of a screen, but this lacks the essential human connection and results in our increasing disconnection from the material world. I work with both private and commercial clients making cushions, bags, homeware and all manner of other sewing projects as bespoke commissions. I have worked with Molly Mahon for the last 7 years, alongside teaching group and one to one workshops. I have over 15 years' experience teaching both children and adults how to work with fabric and textiles.
