A summary

The Spark Group is excited to offer fun and engaging half-day and full day sessions, each focused on essential basic construction skills, suitable for children aged 13-16. We recommend attending the full session where possible. You will enjoy it we promise!

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on practical sessions covering a range of vital trades including:
- Basic home electrics, wiring plugs, isolating
- Plumbing skills, connecting pipes, fixing leaks
- Woodworking, using hand tools
- Painting Tips and Tricks

Health and safety and the safe use of tools and equipment will be emphasised throughout to ensure a secure and effective learning environment.

Skills Sessions

Electrical Installation: Learn essential home electrical safety, including how to isolate power, safely repair basic electrical faults, and confidently change plugs.

Plumbing Skills: includes fundamental plumbing tasks such as changing taps, correctly joining pipes, isolating water systems, and effectively fixing common leaks.

Joinery Skills: Develop core woodworking abilities by learning various timber joining techniques and understanding the different uses and properties of various timbers.

Decorating Skills: Acquire practical decorating knowledge, covering efficient painting methods, precise "cutting in" techniques, and the safe use of specialist decorating equipment.

The Spark Group are a new training and learning provider based in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. We are driven by a mission to ignite potential and empower young people—especially those facing barriers to employment—through skills, education, and opportunity. Our focus is on delivering high-quality, industry-aligned training, primarily within the construction sector. We work closely with young people, employers, and local authorities to ensure that every learner not only gains practical skills, but also leaves us with the confidence and support needed to enter the workforce and thrive. Led by an really experienced team, of professionals, The Spark Group benefits from a wealth of leadership experience and deep industry knowledge. The Team brings years of expertise in education and employability programs and has a particular passion for supporting young people in to employment.

Learning aims

Aim 1

Plumbing Skills: Safely isolate water, change & install taps, join pipes, and fix common leaks.

Aim 2

Electrical Installation: Learn home electrical safety: isolate power, safely repair basics & change plugs. Use correct tools.

Aim 3

Joinery Skills: Identify timbers, master joining techniques. Precisely measure, cut & prepare wood. Safely use joinery tools.

Aim 4

Decorating Skills: Prepare surfaces, paint evenly, execute precise "cutting in." Safely use specialist decorating tools.
