Societal Entrepreneurship

The International Youth Initiative Program

A summary
The International Youth Initiative Program (YIP) is a 10 month residential societal entrepreneurship training for 18-28 years olds based in Ytterjärna, Sweden. It offers a holistic educational program that expands global understanding and personal awareness. YIP aims to strengthen young people’s capacity to take personal and collective initiative in the face of current global realities.
Up to 40 participants learn, create and organize alongside experts, facilitators and innovators. YIP’s curriculum provides a platform for young people to expand their understanding, develop their fullest potential and find their authentic tasks in society and the world.
The term “societal entrepreneur” as used by YIP describes people and initiatives that base their actions in service of society and understand the world as one interconnected living organism. This paradigm points to the interconnectedness of global systems and new ways of working toward a more equitable world. Through allowing young people to explore this paradigm and with it face and develop themselves and society, YIP seeks to support these young people to become leaders of a new, more sustainable and integrated lifestyle and future.

About your mentor
The International Youth Initiative Program
The International Youth Initiative Program
The International Youth Initiative Program started as an idea and topic of conversation amongst a diverse international group of young people connected to the Youth Section of the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. In August 2008 the first year of YIP commenced in Ytterjärna, Sweden. Since then the program has kept changing and adapting to the needs of participants and the wider community as well as to changing global debates and societal developments. Since the beginning, the organising team has welcomed many and changing members, assistance and volunteers. The frequent change over has made for a fresh, dynamic and diverse group of organisers each program year. The organizing team of YIP is a passionate group of people that have made YIP their lifestyle, at least for the time being. The team takes care of the curriculum design, all the planning, financing, logistics, arrangements and organization of the program. As they also live on campus, they coach, mentor and support the participants through their YIP experience. The team consists of some full-time members, who guarantee the longer term processes and responsibilities for the organization and the curriculum. Next to these there are often volunteers that help make the community life with its many practical and logistical details run smoothly.

My experience is an educational activity, and the ‘14-day cooling period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 therefore applies. After the 14 day period my standard policy will apply.
