Sharp Tools workshop – approved by IOL A fantastic opportunity to join top bushcraft educator Dave Watson for a Sharp Tools Workshop at half the usual price! This collaboration between Where the Fruit is and FSA Oxon, Bucks & Berks Local Group is a once in a lifetime chance to gain invaluable experience with sharp tools in the beautiful purpose built Wood School building at Sylva. During the day you will: * Explore creative techniques with knives and saws * Learn the properties of different woods. * Choose the right knife for a specific person, task, or material. * Consider different techniques for a range of age groups/abilities. * Make a variety of products to test your new skills The day will be both indoors and out, so please wear appropriate clothing for the weather and bring some lunch. Dave is also running an Advanced Skills Day on Using Natural Materials Creatively on Friday 9th February. This will be a great day of understanding how incredibly versatile many of our natural materials are. You will learn how to secure a tarp properly with natural ties and bindings. Create efffective pot hangers of various different designs and discover natural tinders for firelighting, along with some games and decorations. Dave Watson
Founder of Woodland Survival Crafts
Woodland Survival Crafts was established in 1995 by Dave Watson, following a 10 year career in outdoor activity centres. Initially, Woodland Survival Crafts was set up to provide adult education and schools’ programmes at a variety of outdoor centres in Shropshire and Worcestershire. It became clear very early on that bushcraft was a tool which excited and inspired everyone. It is an excellent tool to teach life skills, environmental education, and history as well as being a perfect basis in which to impart sound spiritual lessons. By 2001, Dave, was being used increasingly to provide services for teenagers and young adults, especially those with low academic ability. Dave has spent a great deal of time developing programmes for young people; especially those who struggle with more conventional education, and has regularly witnessed dramatic and outstanding results.
