A summary
Join us for a nurturing day of woodland adventures, sensory exploration, nature-based activities, free expression, skill building, and child-led discovery in a supportive SEND-friendly environment. Children are welcomed at the gate by the Forest School Leader and support team before making their way to the woodland together. We begin the day with a gentle welcome circle, giving everyone the opportunity to settle in, connect with others, explore the visual timetable, and become familiar with the activities and expectations for the day. Activities are adapted to meet individual needs and interests and may include nature crafts, foraging, weaving, clay creations, sensory play, bushcraft, storytelling, and woodland exploration. Children are encouraged to engage at their own pace, with plenty of opportunities for choice, independence, and supported participation. All sessions are rooted in Forest School principles, promoting confidence, wellbeing, and connection with the natural world. A range of free-choice activities are available throughout the day, including the mud kitchen, potion station, hammocks, den building, sensory experiences, and woodland games. Quiet spaces and opportunities for regulation are available for children who need them. A healthy snack and lunch are provided during the session, with dietary requirements accommodated wherever possible. Parents and carers are welcome to attend, particularly if their child benefits from 1:1 support or the reassurance of a familiar adult. We aim to create an inclusive environment where every child can access and enjoy the woodland experience in a way that works for them. At the end of the session, children and leaders come together for a reflection circle where we celebrate achievements, share experiences, recognise new skills, and acknowledge each child's unique contributions. Children are returned to parents and carers at the gate at the end of the session. Your child is likely to get muddy, build confidence, make connections, and create wonderful memories along the way!
