Saturday Football - Years 4, 5 & 6

Saturday Football for Years 4, 5 and 6 is a free weekly football session run by Newham Sports Club at Rokeby School in Canning Town, London E16. Sessions run on Saturday mornings, 8.30–10.00am, throughout the academic year, and are fully funded by Rokeby School.

WHEN AND WHERE

Saturdays, 8.30–10.00am, on the astroturf at Rokeby School, Barking Road, London E16 4DD. Five minutes' walk from Canning Town station.

WHO IT IS FOR

Children in Years 4, 5 and 6, roughly ages 8–11, from any Newham primary school. You do not need to be a Rokeby pupil to come. Boys and girls play together, and all abilities are welcome.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Nothing. The session is free, funded by Rokeby School. There are 40 places each week and they are booked through this page so we know who to expect.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION

This is facilitated football, not a coaching session. Qualified, DBS-checked Newham Sports Club staff set the pitches up, organise the teams, keep it safe and fair, and then let the young people play. There is no drill work and no lining up — they come to play, and that is what they get. It is deliberately low-pressure, which is why it suits children who have drifted away from organised sport as much as those who play every week.

WHAT TO BRING

Astroturf trainers or firm-ground boots — no long studs. Shin pads are required. Bring a refillable water bottle and dress for the weather; a change of clothes is a good idea in winter.

QUESTIONS PARENTS ASK

Is it really free?

Yes. Rokeby School funds the whole programme so that it costs families nothing. We ask you to book a place so we can staff it properly and know who is coming.

Does my child have to go to Rokeby School?

No. This session is open to children at any Newham primary school.

Is it coached?

No, and that is on purpose. Our staff facilitate and supervise rather than coach, so the session stays about playing. If your child wants structured coaching, our futsal academy runs on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the same venue.

Does it run in the school holidays?

No. Sessions follow the Newham school term and pause for half term and the holidays. The dates for this block are listed on this page.

What if we book and cannot come?

Please cancel your booking so the place goes to someone else. We do not refund or carry over missed sessions, but as the session is free that only matters for the place itself.

ABOUT NEWHAM SPORTS CLUB

Newham Sports Club is a community sports organisation founded in 2007 and based in Plaistow and Canning Town. We run free Saturday sport at Rokeby School, a youth futsal academy, badminton, recreational basketball, holiday activities and a social kitchen. Our aim is simple: an active future for every person in Newham.
