About your mentor
National Ice Centre
Welcoming, Dynamic and Supportive
Located in the heart of Nottingham’s historic Lace Market, the National Ice Centre (NIC) is the UK’s first facility to feature two Olympic-sized ice rinks. Officially opened in April 2000 by Olympic gold medallist Jayne Torvill, the centre was built on the site of the former Nottingham Ice Stadium and has since become a hub for both recreational and elite ice sports. The NIC is home to a wide range of activities including ice skating, ice hockey, figure skating, and speed skating, and serves as the training base for the GB Short Track Speed Skating Squad. It also houses the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham, a major venue for concerts and live events. With a strong focus on community engagement, sustainability, and youth development, the National Ice Centre continues to inspire the next generation of skaters while offering fun and accessible experiences for all ages.
Getting here
To travel by car, simply follow the brown tourist signs visible on all major routes into the city. Parking is available within just a few minutes' walk. Nearest Tram stop to the National ice Centre is 'Lace Market' on Fletcher Gate which is only a three minute walk from the venue. In addition there are several 'Park and Ride' sites in operation: Moor Bridge just off the A611 south of Hucknall, Phoenix Park just off the M1 at junction 26, Wilkinson Street just off the ring road in Basford and The Forest just off Gregory Boulevard. Long distance and local bus services operate into Nottingham's two main bus stations: Broadmarsh and Victoria, which are a 10 minute walk from the National Ice Centre. Several Nottingham City Transport (NCT) bus services drop right outside the venue and Trent Barton has several bus services which run past us. Nottingham Train Station is a ten minute walk from the National Ice Centre or a very short taxi ride. East Midlands Railway operate regular trains to and from Nottingham.
