What we'll do
Create a play in a week with Routes: a four day long drama holiday programme. Over the four days children work together with skilled facilitators to create a theatre performance from their imaginations. This is performed for family and friends on the final day in our fully operational theatre with lights, sounds and costumes. Every morning drop off is 9am. Participants are provided with a healthy breakfast to fuel them for the day's activities. We then spend the morning doing physical exercises to warm up and get moving, playing drama games (including splat, grandmother's footsteps, red light green light, and captain's orders). At 11:00-11:15 we have a healthy snack. In the afternoon session we rehearse our scenes in small groups. At 12:15 we have lunch and wrap up for the day. We use drama games, arts and crafts and improvisation to explore the "where", "who" and "what" of our performance. Participants are guided through physical games and creative exercises to decide "where" the story takes place (past examples include a hotel and an enchanted forest), "who" the characters in the story are (from a kung fu rabbit to a wicked grandmother), and "what" happens to these characters at the beginning, middle and end of their play. Participants learn about nutrition and healthy eating at mealtimes and visit our community garden, learning about what we grow right here at Omnibus! The aims for the week are simple; to work as a team, to challenge yourself and grow more confident – all whilst having lots of fun and food!

About your mentor
Omnibus Theatre
Award-winning theatre and community space
Omnibus is an award-winning theatre and community centre in Clapham, South London. At the heart of our Learning and Participation is Routes - is a free week-long theatre programme for local 8 – 11 year olds running six times a year during the school holidays. The programme is aimed at young people who qualify for pupil premium/benefits-related free school meals, or who otherwise would significantly benefit from Routes. Alongside receiving breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks, young people work together under the guidance of our facilitators to create a play from their own imaginations which they perform to friends and family at the end of the week in our Theatre. The aims for the week are simple; to work as a team, to challenge yourself and grow more confident – all whilst having lots of fun and food!

Cancellation Policy
Free bookings do not require refunds but as places are limited, please cancel if you cannot attend so that your place can be offered to someone else.

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
