What we'll do
Children and young people will take part in a range of hands-on outdoor, gardening and creative activities at our Root ’n’ Fruit Community Allotment. Activities will include seeding, planting, watering, harvesting, mud kitchen play, nature walks, creative projects and free play in a safe outdoor environment. We will work in small groups with plenty of support from staff, so children can try new skills, get a bit muddy and feel proud of what they’ve helped to look after. We’ll finish with time to wash hands, have a break and share what we’ve done. The session will encourage teamwork, communication, confidence and problem-solving as children work together on shared tasks. Creative and nature-based activities will also support imagination, curiosity and wellbeing, while giving children the opportunity to try new experiences and learn through play.
About your mentor
Middleport Matters Community Trust
Bringing the community of Middleport together
Middleport Matters Community Trust is a charity located at the heart of the community we serve. Established in 2015, our mission is to empower residents to reach their full potential by providing essential services and support. We create opportunities for people to connect, learn, and grow, addressing some of the key challenges facing our area. Our aim is to build a safe, welcoming, and thriving neighbourhood where people feel connected, supported, and empowered to live fulfilling lives. We are committed to ensuring that all residents, regardless of age or background, have the opportunity to succeed. As part of this, we offer a range of dedicated youth services that provide safe spaces, positive activities, and tailored support for young people. These services are designed to build confidence, develop life skills, and open up opportunities for personal and social growth.
What to bring and wear
This is an outdoor, hands-on gardening session, so please bring a water bottle and wear old clothes you don’t mind getting muddy with sensible footwear. Wellies are ideal, especially if it’s wet or has been raining. A waterproof coat is recommended, and in cooler weather please bring an extra layer.
