A summary
Partnered with Royal Live Saving Society (RLSS) UK, our Rookie Lifeguard programme is designed to help more young people keep themselves and others safe in the water. Once swimmers reach level 7, they are invited to join the RLSS UK’s Rookie Lifeguard Programme, which teaches them how to safely rescue others who get into difficulty, as well as protect themselves from harm.
Children can build confidence and life skills through the structured Rookie Lifeguard programme, progressing through Bronze, Silver and Gold stages while learning water safety, teamwork and rescue techniques.
Please note that children must be able to swim at a stage 7 or above level. Requirements for this are below.
To pass Stage 7, swimmers must complete a series of specific water competency and endurance outcomes: Stroke Mastery: Swim 25 meters of all four strokes to Swim England's Expected Standards. Continuous Swimming: Complete a continuous swim of 100 meters using at least three different strokes. Diving: Perform a sitting dive or a standard dive from the poolside. Water Skills: Tread water using an eggbeater action for 30 seconds, perform a sculling sequence, and complete a movement sequence for one minute in a group of three. Obstacle Course: Complete an obstacle course with feet off the pool floor throughout.
The majority of the time will be spent in the pool so please bring the following:
- Swimwear
-Goggles if needed
-Clothes to swim in. These should be a good fit , any baggy clothing will make swimming harder
- Towel
-Water Bottle to refill
- £1 or trolley token for the locker.
Food provided will be a meal deal from the co op. Water is available throughout the day.
