Riverview Development Trust will deliver a wide programme of activities to include sports and physical activities; heritage, culture and arts and crafts, and a comprehensive food package, for children from Liverpool 8 and surrounding wards.
Our plan is to provide activities every week day during the holiday as well as food during activities and for children at home for the whole Summer. The hot meals and holiday food is intended to keep children healthy and happy over the holiday, as well as making sure they eat healthy and nutritious meals and develop a better understanding of food, where it comes from and how it contributes to their health and well-being.
All of RVDT's activities are planned in line with HAF guidelines to offer something to interest every child and young person, as well as activities to stretch and challenge them. We will have a timetable of physical activities including sports on Millennium Green and in the Park, football, Bubble Football, walking, gardening and indoor sports (table tennis etc). There is a garden at RVDT and the children and young people are creating a Pizza Garden and a Vegetable Garden to help them learn how food is grown and where different foods come from.
In addition to the physical activities we offer a range of cultural activities, arts and crafts and trips including to heritage sites. We consult with the young people at the beginning of the holiday to ensure we include something for every child. These activities will include: trips to Liverpool Museums, gardening and growing, music, literature and poetry, walking, trips to Liverpool Cathedrals and other places of interest and significance.
We work with a wide age range of children and young people and ensure that we have activities to suit all age ranges. Where appropriate, we break the young people down into age groups (this is why we have enough youth workers and volunteers to support all groups). We are particularly keen to engage with teenagers, who often don't engage in activities. Our football tournaments are very popular with older children as are some of the trips and activities eg Museums. As RVDT delivers Detached Youth Provision for south Liverpool, we are known to teenagers and trusted as a place to come during the holidays.
