What we'll doCome and join us for a JIGSAW exclusive Play in the Bay session at The Wave followed by a welcoming hot chocolate, picnic and fun games afternoon.
The Bay area of the lake offers gentle, white-water waves that are perfect for paddling, splashing, and taking a dip. This session is for young people ages 8-18 to come and just enjoy the fun and freedom of being in the water. JIGSAW will have sole use of the shallow part of the water on one side of the Wave. A surf class will be happening in the deeper water on our side. There will be a JIGSAW staff member and volunteer in the water to help you join in.
No surfboard or wave riding equipment is allowed, but children can bring bodyboards. Water aids for children, including arm bands, are also permitted however, other inflatable toys are not.
Wetsuit hire is included in the session price or feel free to bring your own. If the weather is warm enough a wetsuit may not be required and you can wear a swimming costume. Please note that it is compulsory for anyone in the water to wear a coloured rash vest, which is provided by The Wave.
Important: Non-swimmers will have to be accompanied in the water by an adult at a ratio of 1 adult per child. Children aged 9 and over that can swim, are allowed to be in the water without an adult, but there must be someone in close proximity on the shoreline. Young people ages 14-25, can be unaccompanied during the session, as long as they meet the Wave requirements of being a strong swimmer. You will be asked to supply details of accompanying adults, and emergency contact details, during the sign up process and can choose between a swim or spectator ticket.
We will be meeting in the main entrance area at 10.30am. The lake/main entrance is around a 20 minute walk from the car park. There are limited blue badge parking spaces close to the lake.
After our Play in the Bay session, JIGSAW will provide everyone booked on, with a warming hot chocolate and picnic lunch. Please ensure that you include all dietary requirements in your booking, so that we can cater for everyone effectively.
After lunch, we will be congregating to enjoy some games until 2.30pm, so why not stay and have some more fun with us!
We welcome all current JIGSAW Thornbury members, as well as other members of the community who may benefit from joining our charity. If you are not currently a member, we will require you to apply for our free membership as part of the booking conditions, so that we can ensure your young person's safety and well-being during the activity.
There are 8 HAF funded young person places available for young people ages 8-18, but please be aware that there will be a maximum of 30 people in our JIGSAW allocated space at The Wave. If you feel you are in a position to pay for a space, please visit our website where the remaining tickets are bookable through our Charity Suite platform. Tickets for young people ages 9+ and adults are £14 each and a combined ticket for young people ages 0-8 and a parent, are available for £25 each.
