What we'll do
GARDEN: Learn all about green spaces, growing food herbs & flowers, start off and take home future food! We'll be sowing lettuce seeds, micro greens and potatotes, understanding how they grow, how we look after them and what healthy foods we can make out of them. Children will leave at the end of the day with the seeds they have sown and an info leaflet to carry on the fun at home. One day we'll be making wildflower seed bombs and exploring ways we can use these to add beauty to our neighborhoods. ART: Learn Printing, Street Art, Graffiti & Natural Dying We'll be creating large scale murals of fruit & vegetable characters using spray paints, lead by a Nottingham Street Artist. The finished artworks will be displayed in and around the community centre. One day we'll be printing T Shirts using a screen printing machine - children will get to print a white t shirt that we will provide and then colour in the design with fabric markers - the T Shirt will be taken home at the end of the day. GRUB: Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks & Pud from our NGP Community Food Trailer We have our own Nottz Garden Project food trailer where we cook delicious fresh food - Menu favourites include: Breakfast; toast bar & fruit Lunch; Tacos, Pasta, Curry and DIY Pizzas. Pudding: Eton mess, Fruit Crumble, Pancakes, Fruit Salad All food is veggie and can be made vegan. BUSHTUKKA TRIAL: Learn and identify new foods to win the challenge! Our interactive life-size board game challenges children to Touch, Smell, Taste and Look at mystery fruits, vegetables and plants. Spin the wheel to decide your challenge - correctly identify the mystery to win and collect stickers. SMOOTHIE BIKE: Pedal to create your own fruit smoothie! We have our own Smoothie Bike that will run all morning - children can decide their ingredients from a choice of berries and then pedal like crazy to create their own delicious smoothie drink. FOOD LAB: Fruit Juicing, Communitea & Food Taste Tests! When the Smoothie Bike is packed away after lunch we run a Food Lab - a strange and exciting session where children discover new things about food - for example : how to use a fruit press and make apple juice & how to make herbal teabags We try to be outdoors where possible with activities taking place in the community centre garden and around the food trailer - when weather is not good we have the community centre to use. Often we use both locations as some children prefer to be indoors.
