A summary

Musical improv is the joyful, slightly bonkers art of making up songs on the spot. No script or score, no plan - just you, a room full of supportive fellow players, facilitation and direction from Rebecca, and live musician Rob on keys to support you and carry you along. There's no such thing really as ‘out of tune’ or ‘out of time’ here - we're all making it up together, expressing ourselves in the moment, and it’s not something you can ‘get wrong’.

Over four weeks we'll warm up voices and bodies, play singing and rhyming games, learn how to create the building blocks of improvised songs: chorus, verses, bridges, and build to fully improvised solos, duets and group numbers, with some ‘Who’s line’ style singing games thrown in. It's heartfelt and it's silly, often in the same breath - and it's for everybody, whether you've got bags of singing experience, or none whatsoever. We ask that participants have attended at least three of the regular Thursday improv classes before so you are familiar with the vibes, and have some familiarity with our style of improv.

Rob Kempner is a free lance music practitioner with extensive experience of composing and musical directing for community and youth theatre projects within Gloucestershire.

Past students of Rebecca’s improv music classes have said:

"I was very nervous at first... but it's so much fun every week."

"What really surprised me was the quality of bonding you can get... magical group cohesion just by listening to each other singing."

"All types of voices are welcome. It's really suitable for everyone, whether you have improv experience or not, and whether you 'can sing' or not."

"The musical classes have been very helpful for my mental health."
