Rooms Through Time explore how ways of living, furniture, textiles and decor have adapted through the ages, from the wooden interiors of the 1630s and Victorian floral motifs to mid-twentieth-century geometric designs and speculative visions of a future home. Home Galleries The word home has many meanings. It can be the physical space we live in or a feeling that goes beyond a specific time or place. In the Home Galleries we explore the concept of home through people’s everyday experiences of making, keeping and being at home over the last 400 years. There is a real mix of contemporary and historical stories in this space, and there are interactive elements. Gardens Through Time Gardens Through Time show how city gardens have developed over the centuries. From a Tudor knot garden to a modern green roof, our gardens echo changes in society and the wider world and show the fashions and innovations of the time. Many urban homes only have a small garden, if one at all. Gardens are often multipurpose spaces for practical purposes and leisure activities. Gardens have always been key to creating a feeling of home and connecting people to their environment.
