About your mentor

MK Film Club

Create, film and perform an original production

We run MK Film Club and On the Talent Performing Arts. Joanna leads the provision and has a strong passion for the arts. She studied at The University of Northampton, gaining a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in Media, Popular Culture and Drama, additionally has a Level 3 in Education and Training, and has been delivering filmmaking sessions across Milton Keynes and surrounding areas for over 10 years. Kara holds a professional diploma in Musical Theatre after training at Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama and currently works as a one-to-one singing tutor at Rhythm Room Music School. Kara continues to support session delivery across both provisions. Sessions are delivered by Joanna, with support from Kara and our wider experienced staff team. Our team includes teaching Assistants working within mainstream schools, support staff from specialist SEN schools, a qualified childminder, and school SEN administrative staff. All staff hold, as a minimum, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding and First Aid training. We hold full business insurance and all staff are DBS checked.

Fully Funded Film Workshops (EHCP+ Programme) We’re excited to offer a fully funded series of 8 creative film workshops for young people, funded by Milton Keynes City Council (EHCP+). These sessions are designed to be fun, engaging, and pressure free, giving children the opportunity to explore filmmaking, build confidence, and develop new skills. What to Expect Across the programme, participants will take part in a variety of hands-on, standalone workshops, including: ✨Idea Generation & Script Writing Workshop ✨Character Development & Storyboarding Workshop ✨Acting & Confidence Skills Workshop ✨Make-Up Workshop ✨Filmmaking Basics (Camera & Lighting) Workshop ✨Costume & Props Workshop ✨Filming Workshop ✨Editing, Sound & Effects Workshop ✨Each session is designed to be enjoyable on its own, while still building skills over time. Learning aims

Aim 1

Develop confidence in performance and presentation. Children will build confidence performing both on camera and in front of a live audience.

Aim 3

Build teamwork and communication skills. Children will collaborate effectively, taking on different roles and working together towards a shared goal.

Aim 5

Gain practical skills in filming, acting and production. Children will gain hands on experience using equipment, learning scripts, and contributing to both filmed and live elements.

Aim 2

Understand the filmmaking and production process. Participants will learn how to take an idea from concept through planning, filming and final production.

Aim 4

Enhance creativity and storytelling ability. Participants will explore creative ideas, develop narratives, and express themselves through film and performance.
