Master classes in copper

Repoussé Master class specials in the Iron Age Forge at Into the Wild festival
with experienced tutor Simon Summers - an expert, award winning heritage blacksmith and experimental Archaeologist in Iron Age Celtic forgework and repoussé.

These workshops are for Into the Wild Festival 2026 Ticket holders only:
Students will get exclusive access to Simon’s woodland forge set within an ancient woodland upon a period Celtic Iron Age fort near Forest Row, Sussex.

Each day of the festival, Simon will offer a different and unique 2 hour course into early Celtic metal artworks.

Inspired by the Celts' imagination, style, and skill, Simon, an expert craft-smith will guide students to master the art of cold metal chasing to produce detailed artwork and jewellery like that from the golden age of the Iron Age period.

Repoussé spirals in copper >>>
Create a hand beaten work of nature's art. Inspired by Celtic smiths. Decorative, mysterious, sacred treasures.
You will learn to chase out a spiral pattern and then push out relief with primitive hand forged tools to create your own work of art in copper.

Introduction to Celtic art in repoussé >>>
Explore the shamanic La Tène cultural art of the Iron Age smiths using basic designs from 2,500 circa years ago.
You will be using primitive hand forged tools which would have been used in the Iron Age to create your own unique brooch size pieces within an ancient woodland upon a real Iron Age fort and settlement surroundings that have been occupied from 10,000 years ago.

Copper bangles >>>
You will chase out by hammer and primitive tools early - late Bronze Age symbolic artwork inspired from period pottery and stone carvings to create your own polished relic that you can wear.

» Unearth the fine craftsmanship created by ancient Britons, Gaulish and Celtic Smiths.
» Learn to use Bronze Age – Iron Age techniques with hand forged primitive tools.
» Explore basic early Celtic art and patterns
» Dive into the meaning behind symbols like the spiral.
» Design your own individual art inspired by Europe’s native ancestors.
» Create a hand-crafted bangle; a functional, practical artefact to wear and treasure.
