A summary
This Learn to Nordic Walk course begins with a welcoming 90-minute taster session, offering a gentle and informative introduction to Nordic Walking. You’ll explore the origins and wellbeing benefits of Nordic Walking and learn the British Nordic Walking 10-step technique, guided by a qualified instructor. Nordic Walking poles are provided and individually fitted to your height. The session starts with a gentle warm up, followed by a series of exercises and drills to introduce the technique. You’ll have time to practise during a relaxed walk, finishing with cool down stretches. Following the taster, the course continues over three further weeks, allowing you to develop confidence, refine your technique and build a strong foundation for safe, effective Nordic Walking. By the end of the course, you’ll feel comfortable using the poles independently and enjoying the physical and mental wellbeing benefits of Nordic Walking, whether you choose to walk solo to improve your fitness or join our regular group for ongoing opportunities such as weekly Nordic Fitness sessions and Monthly Health Walks. Nordic Walking is suitable for all ages and levels of ability — “If you can walk, you can Nordic Walk.”

About Nordic Walking
Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience. With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross-country skiing, Nordic Walking is a whole-body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running. More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round. Nordic Walking combines the simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full body workout, which means that you: • burn up to 46% more calories compared to walking without poles • release tension in the neck and shoulders • improve your posture and gait • strengthen your back and abdominal muscles • reduce the impact on the joints And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work, you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer.
