A summary
Come and enjoy a morning full of activities, plus a hot nutritious meal (or a packed lunch if off site) during the summer holidays at the Cumulus Outdoors Residential Centre in Swanage and Dorset Adventure Park. We will be offering a range of adventurous and fun outdoor education activities aimed at getting local children active and encouraging an interest in the great outdoors. Each day, we will offer a fun-filled outdoor activity (weather permitting) before lunch. Not only will the children have great fun on the activity, but they will also enjoy a delicious meal to re-charge their energy levels. Week 1: > Monday 27th July: Children will enjoy an exciting outdoor adventure as they learn the basics of map reading and orienteering. They'll explore Durlston while taking part in a variety of fun nature-themed challenges, encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and a love of the outdoors. > Tuesday 28th July: Young cowboys and cowgirls will design their very own Wild West-inspired keyring before bringing their creations to life using colourful felt and craft materials. The day also includes supervised rifle shooting activities and plenty of Wild West-themed games and challenges. A delicious two-course lunch will be provided. > Wednesday 29th July: Get ready for a day of Wild West excitement! Children will create and enjoy some tasty Western-themed treats before taking part in supervised axe-throwing activities and a range of fun cowboy-themed games. > Thursday 30th July: Children will design and make their own unique cowboy hats to take home before testing their skills in an exciting game of Tag Archery. The day is packed with Wild West-themed fun, teamwork, and adventure. > Friday 31st July: Our final day of the wacky western theme takes children to the lake for an exciting kayaking session, where they'll build confidence on the water while having fun with friends. The adventure continues with a selection of cowboy-themed games and activities throughout the day. Week 2: > Monday 3rd August: A fantastic day for budding builders and creative minds! Children will be able to have a tour around the brick factory! Learning about how the bricks are made and more! There may even be chance to have a go at making a brick! > Tuesday 4th August: Children will design and decorate their own slime container before creating a unique slime mixture and giving it a fun name. The adventure continues with exciting high ropes activities, including the High All Aboard challenge and a variety of team-building tasks designed to build confidence and encourage cooperation. > Wednesday 5th August: Young explorers will create their own fossil-themed clay decorations using fossil prints and will also make colourful hanging jellyfish sculptures using a range of craft materials. The day also includes exciting tunnelling challenges, promoting teamwork, resilience, and problem-solving. > Thursday 6th August: Children will learn outdoor skills as they discover different fire-lighting techniques and, under close supervision, work in small groups to build their own campfires. They will then enjoy cooking their own lunch over the fire, making for a memorable outdoor adventure. > Friday 7th August: Join us for an exciting trip to Kimmeridge, where children will explore the coastline while fossil hunting and discovering fascinating marine life in the rock pools. Along the way, they will learn about fossils and the area's incredible prehistoric history through fun, hands-on activities. Week 3: > Monday 10th August: Get ready for a day of exciting hands-on science! Children will explore the wonders of chemistry and physics by creating their own erupting volcanoes and launching bottle rockets. These fun experiments encourage curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning. > Tuesday 11th August: Children will use their imagination to design and sculpt their own unique clay creatures before taking on exciting high ropes activities, including the Crate Stack challenge and low ropes course. This action-packed day helps build confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. > Wednesday 12th August: Children will learn the art of weaving, creating their own designs to take home. The day also includes fun outdoor activities at the pond and exciting Aeroball sessions, combining creativity with active play. > Thursday 13th August: Children will have the opportunity to leave their mark on the centre by helping to repaint the Cumulus helmets displayed around the site. Using plenty of colour and creativity, they'll contribute to a special community project before taking part in a fun-filled Site Olympics, featuring a variety of mini games and team challenges. > Friday 14th August: After learning about the fascinating art of camouflage, children will have the chance to use camouflage face paint and put their new skills to the test. The day continues with a range of exciting woodland games and challenges around our camp area, encouraging teamwork, observation, and outdoor exploration. Week 4: > Monday 17th August: Children will spend the morning at the beach, going in the water, learning valuable water and beach safety skills. They will discover how lifeguards help keep people safe, learn about potential hazards to watch out for, and take part in fun rescue-themed activities using beach safety equipment. There will also be time to enjoy games and supervised play on the beach. > Tuesday 18th August: Children will meet and spend the morning at Dorset Adventure Park, enjoying and having fun at the waterpark! A delicious lunch will be provided at Dorset Adventure Park before collection from the venue. > Wednesday 19th August: Children will have great fun making their own colourful bouncy balls to take home before putting their problem-solving skills to the test in a bushcraft water filtration challenge. This hands-on activity introduces children to basic outdoor survival skills in an exciting and engaging way. > Thursday 20th August: Young explorers will bake and decorate their own dinosaur and fossil-themed biscuits before setting off on an exciting treasure hunt packed with clues, challenges, and adventure. > Friday 21st August: Children will plant their own seeds and learn about how plants grow, encouraging an appreciation for nature and the environment. The day also includes exciting high ropes activities, featuring the Jacob's Ladder challenge and low ropes course, helping children build confidence, teamwork, and communication skills. Week 5: > Monday 24th August: Children will put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test by designing and racing their own straw rockets. They will also take part in an exciting Angry Birds-inspired challenge, building catapults and targets before seeing if they can knock down their creations. A fantastic day of hands-on STEM fun! > Tuesday 25th August: Young artists will create beautiful stained-glass-style window decorations to take home before taking on exciting high ropes activities, including the Leap of Faith and low ropes course. These challenges help children build confidence, resilience, and teamwork skills in a supportive environment. > Wednesday 26th August: Children will design and make their own fidget toys before tackling our Egg Drop Challenge. Working in teams, they will use creativity, engineering, and problem-solving skills to protect an egg from a high drop. A fun and engaging day of invention and discovery! > Thursday 27th August: Get ready to get muddy! Children will take part in an exciting mud run packed with obstacles, teamwork, and outdoor fun. The morning will be at Dorset Adventure Park, where children will meet, enjoy lunch, and take part in the day's activities. Lunch will be provided at Dorset Adventure Park before collection from the venue. > Friday 28th August: Children will enjoy an exciting day at the lake, taking part in stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and Mega SUP sessions. This fun-filled water adventure helps develop confidence, balance, and teamwork while making lasting memories with friends.
