What we'll do
Each 45-minute session begins with an introduction to the weekly theme, designed to broaden children’s understanding of topics such as different cultures, countries, and their music. We start with an engaging game to capture focus, followed by a thorough warm-up. Children will then learn a section of choreography, building towards a full routine over a 4–5 week module, which will be performed for parents and guardians at the end. The session also includes a creative task to develop key dance skills such as spatial awareness, formations, and partner work. We finish with a cool-down and a short reflection on what has been learned. All sessions are led by a fully qualified dance instructor with an Enhanced DBS, Level 2 Safeguarding certification, and over 10 years of experience working with children, including those with additional needs. While one-to-one support cannot be guaranteed, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every child has equal opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy the sessions.

About your mentor
Highfield Hall Community Association
Bringing us together one step at a time.
At Highfield Hall Community Centre, we are proud to be funded by the National Lottery to offer free dance and fitness classes for the local community. We are committed to inclusivity and diversity, which is reflected in the wide range of dance styles and genres we teach, as well as our efforts to educate the community about dance and its cultural significance. In addition, the centre provides a warm and welcoming space available for private events, alongside hosting open, fun-filled days to celebrate occasions such as Christmas and Easter. Through this project, we aim to bring people together, promoting a healthier, happier, and more connected community.
Terms and Conditions
While our classes are free, they are delivered to a high standard and we expect all participants to show respect for the sessions, instructors, and other attendees. A great deal of time and effort goes into planning each class, and we will not tolerate any misuse of this opportunity. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in removal from future sessions. Behaviour & Participation Children are expected to behave appropriately at all times. Disruptive behaviour or lack of respect during sessions will not be accepted. Booking & Attendance Each month focuses on a new module, and spaces must be booked weekly. Due to the short session time, we are unable to recap missed content—if a session is missed, it is the participant’s responsibility. Please only book if you intend to attend, as missed sessions take away opportunities from others. Punctuality is essential; if you arrive more than 5 minutes late, you may not be allowed to join the session. Clothing & Footwear Participants must wear suitable clothing that allows free movement. Leggings and fitted tops are required, and hair must be tied back. Skirts and dresses are not suitable for participation. Trainers must be worn on arrival; however, some activities may require dancing barefoot due to the flooring. Dancing in socks is not permitted. Session Structure Over a 4–5 week period, participants will work towards a complete routine. As these are structured sessions, consistency and attendance are important for progress. Additional Needs We welcome all children; however, we are unable to provide one-to-one support. Our instructors will adapt teaching where possible while ensuring equal attention is given to all participants. Supervision & Safety Parents and guardians are not permitted to supervise sessions. Please be assured that two qualified dance instructors will always be present, and CCTV (including audio) is in operation. Parents are welcome to wait in the café (when open) or in the car park. On selected days, you will be invited to watch and record your child’s progress. Facilities & Preparation Parking and toilet facilities are available. Please ensure children have used the toilet before the session begins, as there will be no time for breaks. Participants should also bring a water bottle. About the Programme While we maintain high teaching standards, we are not currently operating as a formal dance school. We do not offer exams, grades, or competitions at this stage, but hope to expand the programme in the future.
