A summary
Join Icon’s action-packed Music, Rap & Filmmaking Club this summer! Week 1: Rap and Music Mon 27 – Thu 30 July,10.30am – 3.30pm Write, perform and create spoken word and rap with professional artist Emanuel Imuere. No experience needed, just bring your ideas. Week 2: Filmmaking Mon 3 – Thu 6 Aug, 10.30am – 3.30pm Create, shoot and edit your own short film using your mobile phone. Work with professional artist Philly Scott to develop ideas, learn filming techniques and bring your story to life. Equipment will be provided for those without phones. There will be something new to discover each day — sign up for one day or more. Age 7-12? Across the same dates, times and location Icon is running Theatre Club (see website for details) Meals Included Each day includes a delicious and healthy hot or cold meal – completely free! Who Can Join? This programme is free for young people aged 12–16 who receive free school meals and/or have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Icon Theatre
Young People Empowered by Theatre
Icon is an award-winning theatre and participatory arts charity. We push the boundaries of where theatre happens, who it is for and how it can help people and places to grow. Communities and young people collaborating with professional artists in active and equal partnership is at the heart of everything we do, be that making large-scale, outdoor and promenade theatre productions; running our award-winning young people’s programme, or our ongoing participatory theatre programmes in schools, drop-in centres and criminal justice settings. Icon supports artist development across the theatre sector with a generation of professional artists who are highly skilled in working with local communities. Each year, we are co-commissioned with other locally based arts companies to create a much-loved interactive Christmas show for early years children that is performed at The Brook Theatre in Chatham. In 2022, we celebrated our twentieth anniversary and were selected to join Arts Council England’s National Portfolio alongside some of the country’s leading arts organisations.
