What we'll do
On Monday’s we deliver and concentrate on Health, Mental Health awareness and Wellbeing sessions. These relaxing and calming activities include stress and anxiety worksheets and tasks, relaxing diamond art sessions, board games and puzzles, arts and crafts sessions which are themed sessions according to what topics are up and coming for the time of the year eg (Valentines, Easter, Halloween, Christmas, Children in need etc) We include confidence building, antibullying sessions, healthy eating tasks and awareness, stress management and more to promote mental health awareness and wellbeing. The young people thoroughly enjoy these sessions as while they are learning new skills and awareness of topics, they are having fun and new friendship groups are formed. On Wednesday’s we deliver hair and beauty practical skills sessions which include Hairdressing activities - Curling, styling, braiding, hair up skills and blow-drying training heads using the latest tools and equipment in the hairdressing industry. Nail art activities - working on nail wheels and nail tips to create nail art techniques using glitter, gemstones, rhinestones and decorative nail equipment. Making mood boards to display the young people’s work. We do weekly competitions for the most creative hairstyle or nail design depending on what the young people decide on. The winner is chosen by the young people who vote for the best hairstyle or nail design. The winner receives a goody bag containing 3 items around personal care, this could include body wash, bath bombs, hair mask, body crème, face masks, body sprays, foot scrubs. Introducing different personal care items encourages personal hygiene and how to look after themselves with a variety of products. All sessions include free snacks and drinks for each young person.

Mirror Image Community Training LTD
Community projects in Hair beauty & wellbeing
We offer free community projects to the local young people of Halton. In January 2026 we will have been delivering the community projects for 6 years. The sessions take place at Mirror Image community training in Grangeway Runcorn in a local hair and beauty salon. Target groups are local young people aged 10-16 and up to 25 years SEND. We provide a safe place for the local community to attend whilst learning new skills and an insight to the hair and beauty industry. We aim to improve self-confidence and belief in a social, inclusive, and positive atmosphere for the young people to interact with other people of a similar age range. To help to reduce the social isolation and vulnerability of the local community and reduce the amount of young people on the streets.
What we cover within our sessions
Recently the main age group is 10-15. We have made changes to suit this age group by adapting the activities to topics more appropriate to suit the needs of the young people. We have regular discussions with the young people in small groups and 1-1 where necessary and listen to what they want to do more or less of. We change the activities accordingly to suit their needs. We have found lately there is a higher need to work on young persons mental health and drug and alcohol awareness. Through discussion we have found the young people will open up more regarding these topics and have become more self-aware of the dangers of drugs and alcohol in the local community. The mental health task sheets and activities we do have definitely helped them to relax more. By introducing a 15-minute NO PHONE ZONE area encourages relaxation during tasks with no interruptions checking social media. This has worked extremely well.
Learning aims
Aim 1
The Young people will have a clearer understanding on how to curl, straighten and style hair using training heads and the latest tools and equipment.
Aim 3
The young people will be able to create diamond art activities, mood boards, creative drawing and play board games.
Aim 2
The young people will be able to take part in stress and anxiety tasks using worksheets and discuss any concerns within small groups.
Aim 4
The young people will be able to create nail art designs using nail wheels, gems, glitters and rhinestones.
