Greenway National Trust Special

Canoe Adventures

A summary
We will meet in Stoke Gabriel and paddle down river with the tide to Greenway, once home to Agatha Christie, and famous sailors before that.
We'll spend about an hour at Greenway before we make our way back on the incoming tide, observing the estuarine wildlife in action as the tide begins to cover the mud flats and the feeding frenzy begins. Very likely we will be seeing seals, curlews, cormorants, osyer catchers, egrets and herons, and mullet cutting through the shallow water.
You might want to bring a picnic you can have at Greenway or if we make a stop on the shore.
Paddling is easy for everyone in big, stable canoes, 6-12 people in each. No prior experience needed!
Each canoe is skippered by fun, qualified skipper/guide with bushcraft and adventure experience and expert in providing good fun times for parties.
Think of your Canoe Adventure as a whole day out. A proper adventure.
This adventure is new for 2026 and part of our special arrangement with the National Trust to make Greenway more accessible and enable visitors to Greenway to experience more of the wilder estuary upstream of the house.
We meet at the Quay, Stoke Gabriel, by the Riverschack Devon, where there is parking, cafe, toilets, and bus stop 5minute walk away. We allow 15-20 minutes for welcome and introductions, getting kitted up, safety brief and paddle instruction.

You'll need a water bottle each, sun hat, suncream, warm layers, waterproofs. Swimming things (but we can't guarantee swimming). Everything you need for all weathers in Devon!
