What we'll do
This activity is aimed at children and young people who really need quiet, exclusive time with us so that we can help to build the confidence and self-belief of those who find it too challenging to be outside and away from home and in noisy and busy places. This hour will be for one person only so that we can offer carefully tailored and individually adapted support during your time with us. We have ample parking at the front of our site for easier and quieter access as well as ample more private parking at the rear of the site for those who need that. This is YOUR hour so there are no fixed times within it. If you really can’t get out of the car, we will reserve the rest of the hour for when you do feel ready (on that particular day) to come and see us. If you have had enough after a few minutes, then you don’t have to stay. This is designed to be a starting point for you so we will adapt as we need to ensure your safety and wellbeing. We never make anyone ride if they don’t want to, so your time can be spent having a wander around our lovely site with support from our Riding for the Disabled Association-trained staff and volunteers (dependent on your needs and experience we have between two and three people helping you if and when you ride) as well as people who will be on hand when you are having a look around the site. You can meet a pony, lead a pony or spend time grooming one if that's your preference. It's your time so we take it at your pace and adapt to how you are feeling on the day! Our site includes our wheelchair accessible Sensory Garden which is gorgeous at this time of year. There are ‘pretend’ horses here that you may feel more comfortable starting with to stroke before you feel ready to move onto the ‘real thing’. There are picnic benches if you would like to rest or need time out as you have your visit with us. Our beautiful horses and ponies take it in turns to go out into the fields for their grass and exercise so you may see them too! We are hoping that this exclusive hour will offer those families who children need it a safe and reassuring way to come and find how working with ponies is a brilliant way to build confidence, physical and mental wellbeing.
