A summary
Group sessions are great for MORE EXPERIENCED riders, who have been to us before and who are happy to work in a group and confident enough to work here with us for two hours. The sessions will help to build skills and independence! The sessions involve an element of Riding and also Horse Care, like grooming and how to look after your pony. The sessions are themed and these change during the year. Some of them involve working towards a certificate from the British Horse Society or the Association of British Riding Schools. All of them gain a Rosette at the end! If your child or young person has a medical condition, we may require prior, written approval for the RIDING part of this activity from a fully qualified Medical Professional. If this is the case, we will adjust the Riding element until we receive the written permission we need. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each individual we work with.

About your mentor
Gartmore Riding School BHS ABRS RDA
It's what you CAN do that counts!
Gartmore Riding School Riding for the Disabled Group is based in Staffordshire. Our activities include riding lessons, themed courses, social coffee mornings, and training in horse care (such as grooming). We have a beautiful rural site including a Learning Pathway that enables all our visitors to learn about our environment as well as horses. Our speciality is working with children, young people and adults with varying abilities and needs. We offer opportunities to people of all backgrounds, working to break down barriers—whether social, emotional, physical, or psychological. Our sessions can be tailored to suit abilities, needs and preferences!
What's included
Please arrive TEN MINUTES before your session so that you can be fitted with Riding Hat and Boots (that we supply free of charge). Groups meet in our lovely Lecture Room so that we can go through Health and Safety plans for the session. Some of the group will ride or meet or lead a pony whilst the others do their Pony Care activity and then we swap groups so that everyone has chance to do everything on offer that session. We have a beautiful and inspiring Learning Pathway that we also use to help with our work on Horse Care and looking after our environment!
Learning aims
Aim 1
To learn the importance of horse care (and how this also applies to looking after ourselves!)
Aim 2
To ride, meet or lead a pony (depending on your preferences). We never make anyone ride so this part of the activity can be adapted.
Aim 3
To make friends, have fun and build your skills and confidence!
Please note...
Children must be able to work confidently for two hours in a group situation. You will not be contacted by Gartmore Riding School prior to the session. If you book a place, please arrive on the day as the session will go ahead as scheduled - you will not be contacted by Gartmore Riding School in advance.
