Friday Fitness Walk

Suffolk and Norfolk Nordic Walking

A summary
A weekly Nordic Fitness Walk offers a great opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, build fitness and connect with others while practising Nordic Walking technique.
The aim of these sessions is to improve personal fitness and stamina through regular walking with poles. Each session begins with a warm-up, followed by a guided walk of 1–1.5 hours (approximately 3–4 miles) on varied routes around Wilby village or Brockdish (please check individual listings). The session finishes with a group cool-down.
Sessions take place on Friday afternoons, starting at 1.30pm and finishing around 3.00pm. Starting locations alternate between Charlotte’s Wood at Sundial Cottage, Wilby (IP21 5LT) and Greyhound House, Brockdish (IP21 4JY). Parking and toilet facilities are available at both locations.
Participants should ideally be familiar with Nordic Walking technique, although the walks are suitable for beginners and those who have attended a Taster Session. Poles can be borrowed if you don’t have your own.
The cost of each session is £8, plus a small booking fee.

About Nordic Walking
Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience. With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross-country skiing, Nordic Walking is a whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running. More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round.
Nordic Walking combines the simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full body workout, which means that you:
• burn up to 46% more calories compared to walking without poles
• release tension in the neck and shoulders
• improve your posture and gait
• strengthen your back and abdominal muscles
• reduce the impact on the joints
And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work, you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer.
