What we'll do
Discover the journey from fleece to finished textile in this relaxed and creative 6-week workshop for adults (18+). Working with raw sheep's wool from the farm, you will learn traditional fibre-processing skills, including fleece selection, washing, carding and preparation for spinning and weaving. Alongside developing practical skills, we will explore the relationship between fibre, farming and the landscape, gaining a deeper understanding of where our textiles come from and the value of sustainable, locally produced materials. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the farm and meet the sheep whose fleece is being used throughout the course. Over six weeks you will be supported to experiment with hand spinning, tapestry weaving and other fibre arts, progressing at your own pace. Projects may include learning to spin your own yarn, creating a woven wall hanging, small scarf, rug, mat or another piece that reflects your own interests and creativity. All fleece will be provided, with access to some of my own handspun yarn for inspiration and project work. Whilst individual drop-in sessions are available for those wishing to try spinning or weaving, the greatest benefit comes from attending the full block, allowing time to build skills, confidence and a meaningful connection to the materials. By the end of the course, you will have a deeper understanding of wool as a fibre, traditional textile crafts, and the satisfaction of creating something unique and personal to take home.
