Explore the Exciting World of Hydraulics and Robotics! Discover how hydraulic machines and robots work. No experience needed — just curiosity! Our workshops are suitable for families with children aged 5 and up. Children under 9 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Attendance is limited to one adult per family group. Children under 5 years are welcome as part of a family group. Weds 22nd July - Engineering Fun: All About Hydraulics 11.00 am-1 pm : Build Your Own Hydraulic Lift Hydraulic machines are used in forklifts to move heavy pallets, in cranes and excavators to move large amounts of each and in aeroplanes to extend wings and lower landing gear. In this hands-on activity, you'll design and build a scissor lift 1.30pm -3.30pm : Learn How Real Robots Work: Robot arms are becoming increasingly common in industries and everyday life. In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore how they function—and get to develop and build your very own moving robot arm! Get Hands-On with Real Engineering Challenges. Join us in a fun, inclusive environment where you can explore engineering at your own pace. Each session features a brand-new activity, so there’s always something exciting to build and learn.

Eligibility & food

For children living or attending a school in South Gloucestershire: These sessions are fully funded for children eligible for benefit-related free school meals (usually £25 per child, per session). Adults attend for free. Our workshops are suitable for families with children aged 5 and up. Children under 9 years must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 5 years are welcome as part of a family group. What’s Included: Lunch provided for all children (special dietary requirements can be accommodated). Free coffee, tea, soft drinks, and fruit snacks available for all throughout the day. Adults should bring a packed lunch.

Bloodhound Education is a charity which delivers hands-on science and engineering activities for schools, uniformed groups, after school and holiday clubs, and the local community. Our charity has 13-years experience delivering practical enrichment workshops engaging families of all ages including under-represented groups and those with complex health or special educational needs. Our workshops enrich the curriculum and make the link between classroom and careers using real engineering projects like Bloodhound Land Speed Record as an educational tool and to explore future sustainable engineering solutions and renewable technology.

Build confidence and make new friends. To be able to follow set instructions. To develop focus and concentration. Enhance persistence through improving personal designs.

Aim 2

Our activities are well-suited for children with special educational needs. A colouring and craft area will be available for those who may need a break from the main activities.
