Downs Syndrome Sports at Lewes Leisure

We offer Indoor functional fitness and Basketball at Lewes Leisure centre. Families find that this is a fun, social group and a great way for their young person to exercise as well as meeting their friends. The session can provide parents with a short break as there are a high number of staff fully supporting our children and young people. This session includes fitness activities which enables teens to begin to transition to activities and sessions with a more mature focus. We recognise the importance of building relationships for our young people with both their peers with Down syndrome and our teenage sports coaches. We encourage a warm up followed by a lap around the running track, and various fun activities of a short duration that help to improve and develop our young people’s skills, especially in areas that our young people commonly struggle with such as balance, coordination, fine and gross motor skills and stamina, whilst also targeting sensory needs. We adapt the activities to the needs and abilities of all.
