A summary
We run Indoor multi sports and Basketball at Lewes Leisure Centre.
Families find that this is a fun, social group and a great way for their child to exercise as well as meeting their friends. The session can provide parents with a short break as there are a high number of staff fully supporting our children and young people.
This session includes fitness and team sport which enables young people to begin to transition to activities and sessions with a more mature focus. We recognise the importance of building relationships for our young tweens with both their peers with Down syndrome and our teenage sports coaches. We encourage a warm up followed by a lap around the running track, and various fun activities of a short duration that help to improve and develop our young people’s skills, especially in areas that our young people commonly struggle with such as balance, coordination, fine and gross motor skills and stamina, whilst also targeting sensory needs. We adapt the activities to the needs and abilities of all. Sportivate is massively popular with both young people and their parents!
