A summary
Cooking Up Change is a friendly 8-week, hands-on course for adults (19+) to build kitchen confidence, save money and reduce food waste. Each week we cook simple, healthy recipes using seasonal produce and social-supermarket surplus where possible. We’ll cover meal planning, batch cooking, air-fryer tips, smart shopping and safe food handling. You’ll take home what you make and enjoy a free soup lunch together. No experience needed—just come as you are. Welcoming, SEND-friendly and community-minded. Learning aims
Aim 1
Budget-wise cooking: Plan and cook low-cost, nutritious meals using seasonal and surplus ingredients; cost a basic meal and batch plan.
Aim 3
Reduce food waste: Use leftovers creatively, portion properly and store food to last longer—practical tips you’ll use straight away.
Aim 2
Food safety & allergens: Apply everyday kitchen hygiene, safe storage and cross-contamination awareness when preparing food at home.
Aim 4
Confidence & routine: Build a personal weekly meal plan, shopping list and prep routine (including air-fryer/batch methods) to save time and money.
