A summary

The Sensory Spot CIC’s Fun Cooking Creations Session is a practical, child‑friendly cooking experience where children can explore food, build confidence and enjoy hands‑on learning. In this relaxed and welcoming space, children prepare simple, nutritious snacks while developing basic kitchen skills such as chopping, mixing, assembling and following simple steps.

Each session includes a main recipe that children help to create, giving them the chance to try new foods, practise independence and enjoy the pride of making something themselves. Alongside this, children also make fresh fruit kebabs, adding a fun, sensory element that encourages healthy choices through colour, texture and taste.

To complement the cooking, the session also includes a crafting area where children can get creative with themed makes and activities. This gives them the freedom to explore materials, express themselves and enjoy a calm, imaginative break between food preparation tasks.

Across the session, children are supported with gentle guidance, encouragement and positive interaction. The focus is always on enjoyment, confidence‑building and giving every child the chance to shine through practical, creative and sensory experiences.

About your mentor

The Sensory Spot CIC

We are inclusive of all needs and abilities

The Sensory Spot CIC

The Sensory Spot CIC is a community‑focused, child‑centred organisation dedicated to creating safe, nurturing, and engaging spaces for children with additional needs. We believe every child deserves opportunities to play, explore, learn, and thrive in an environment that truly understands and celebrates their individuality. Our sessions are thoughtfully designed to support a wide range of sensory, emotional, and developmental needs. Through hands‑on activities, sensory play, communication‑rich experiences, and gentle structure, we help children build confidence, develop key skills, and enjoy meaningful connections with others. Our approach blends sensory exploration, communication development, creativity, and play‑based learning. During school holidays, we deliver high‑quality educational and sensory sessions as part of the Department for Education’s HAF programme. These sessions offer enriching activities, opportunities for social interaction, and nutritious meals in a supportive, welcoming environment. Our aim is to ensure that every child can enjoy positive holiday experiences that promote wellbeing, curiosity, and joy. At The Sensory Spot CIC, families are at the heart of everything we do. We work closely with parents and carers to create experiences that feel safe, empowering, and genuinely inclusive because when children feel understood, they flourish.
