What we'll do
Boxing clubs are magical, high-energy spaces that bring together a diverse mix of people. Our sessions build confidence, relieve stress, and push fitness levels with footwork drills, bag and pad work, skipping, and partner drills—always with a focus on discipline and defense. Training intensity varies, from technical drills to all-out effort. We also discuss mental health, nutrition, budgeting, and even take sessions outside when the weather allows. If boxers feel anxious or tired, we practice mindfulness and affirmations. Boxing is more than just a sport—it’s a community that supports growth inside and outside the ring.

About your mentor
Brennan's Gym
The Home of The Barn Boxing Club
Brennan's Gym is the Home of The Barn Boxing Club. We believe that boxing is more than just a sport - it's a platform for positive change. Our club is at the heart of the community, using boxing & physical activities to build confidence, install discipline & support physical and mental wellbeing. We provide a safe & welcoming space where people of all ages can develop respect, resilience and self belief. Through structured training, mentorship & strong role models, we help young people & adults grow both inside and outside of the club.
The Environment
The club & sessions we run are often very busy, high energy & very noisy. Discipline plays a massive role in a boxing club due to the full contact nature of the sport. Coaches often shout, to be heard over the activity, to elicit more effort or energy from participants or in the instance we need participants to stop what they’re doing immediately. We are fortunate enough to have a very big gym to accommodate different activities (sometimes children draw or play games while others are boxing) but it is important that participants are aware of the noisy, high energy environment before they arrive.
Learning aims
Aim 1
Provide a safe, inclusive & fun environment to encourage building confidence & self worth
Aim 2
Provide nutritious & delicious lunches throughout the holiday club. We always include food education around food, meal planning, budgeting & minimising waste
Aim 3
Learn the basic boxing skills - footwork, stance & guard & basic combination of punches & how to defend yourself
What To Wear
Wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothes and clean trainers for indoor activities. We spend a lot of time exercising, boxing & playing games so shorts and tshirt or tracksuit bottoms or leggings and a sweatshirt are ideal depending on the weather & personal preference. It is likely children will get hot. If weather permits, we may go to the park & play games, football or something similar. A water bottle is desirable & if participants have their own boxing gloves, hand wraps or gumshield, they are welcome to bring them to use. We are affiliated with England Boxing which stipulates that young people are dressed in what they deem 'appropriate' for physical activity. This means tummies, chests & glutes should be covered.
