Beginner's Modern Calligraphy Workshop

Alina Snepste

A summary
Join me for a relaxed and creative evening, where you’ll be gently guided through the beautiful art of dip pen calligraphy.
This beginner-friendly workshop is ideal if you’re completely new to calligraphy or want a peaceful refresher. We’ll begin by getting familiar with the tools - assembling your pen, learning how to dip correctly, and understanding the basics of modern calligraphy. You’ll then move through simple warm-up exercises designed to build confidence with shapes and strokes.
Next, we’ll explore the alphabet, tracing and practicing letters, words, and short phrases using my carefully designed worksheets. To finish, you’ll bring everything together by creating your own hand-lettered greeting cards and gift tags to take home.
Throughout the workshop, I’ll be there to support you, troubleshoot any challenges, and offer creative ideas to help you personalise your work.
We’ll explore vibrant inks together and add simple, charming drawings to beautifully decorate your cards, gift tags, and envelopes.
What’s included:
All materials and tools for use during the session
A hot drink from the cafe
Take-home worksheets, gift tags, and greeting cards
Option to purchase your own calligraphy kit after the class

Alina Snepste
I’m Alina – a professional calligrapher and educator based on the South Coast of the UK. With over a decade of experience in modern and brush calligraphy, I specialise in helping others find calm, confidence, and creative purpose through the art of lettering. Calligraphy first found me in 2015 during a period of severe anxiety, and it quickly became more than a hobby – it was a mindful ritual that brought focus, peace, and a renewed sense of self. That personal transformation sparked a lifelong journey of learning, refining my craft, and sharing it with others. Today, I teach calligraphy as both an expressive art form and a practical skill – guiding complete beginners through the foundations, supporting hobbyists as they grow their creative voice, and mentoring small business owners who want to turn their passion into a purposeful, profitable path. Whether you're here to explore, unwind, or build something meaningful from your love of letters, you're in experienced hands – and you're in the right place. Since 2019, I’ve taught hundreds of calligraphy workshops across East Sussex,
