A summary
In this 5 day course, we will develop creative ideas through a range of printmaking techniques using tools and equipment that do not cost too much and are easy to acquire for further use at home. Those who attend all 5 days will tackle a new print method each week and/or add greater depth and refinement to one which has already been tackled, gradually building up experience and confidence. Plenty of starting points will be provided however bringing your personal resources and ideas is wholeheartedly encouraged.
If you cannot make the full 5-week journey then you could book individual dates.
Week 1 Fri 14th February
Monoprint - simple print process without a press
Introduction to drawing without fear via print
Week 2 Fri 27th March
Monoprint - Gelli plate textures and layers
Develop your experimental approaches through an exploration of colour, texture, line and pattern whilst you layer up your monoprints
Week 3 Fri 24th April
Lino Print 1 A Fine Art relief print process just black and white.
Explore this satisfying and accessible print process. Reduce the lino from simple lines a full range of marks and textures. Make a range of prints as you reduce the lino and get to grips with using the tools and pulling the prints.
Week 4 Fri 15th May
Lino Print 2 Reduction process, 3 colour print
Take the process further and explore full colour. Make a range of prints as you continue to reduce the lino and further develop your handling of the tools. Extend your understanding as you layer up to 3 colours.
Week 5 Fri 12th June
Mixing it all up - Collage and mixed media.
You will want to keep some of the prints made in previous weeks and you will have some that need more attention. Explore how you could re-purpose your left-over prints through collage and mixed media approaches. Get to grips with tearing, cutting, arranging, layering, assembling and using other media to add refinements.

After my Fine Art degree at Goldsmiths College and PGCE in Brighton I enjoyed a long career leading Art Departments in local secondary schools. In the last 10 years I have returned to making my own work and teaching adult workshops in three venues; Home, Sussex Prairie Gardens and Amberley Museum. I also cherish my role with the creative textile community group 'The Steyning So and Sews’ who meet regularly to make collaborative textile works to enhance local community spaces. My mixed media and textile works are a response to what I find in my natural surroundings. Inspired by a residency at Sussex Prairie Garden I explore themes around biodiversity I forage and collect plant stuffs from my garden and local hedgerows, experiment with wet and dry media processes and then document my findings in sketchbooks and refined outcomes. Using a variety of paper, fabric, hand and machine stitch and mixed media techniques to make sketches, rubbings, mono and contact prints, dye fabric, I make paper and fabric collages and assemblages. For example, a range of silk scarves show how garden plants can yield a print onto fabric and a range of paper based collages record casual visual impressions caught in a moment, images spliced together to form a lasting memory. Inspired by relief collage works by Ben Nicholson and Kurt Schwitters, the Eco prints of India Flint, Spirit Cloths of Jude Hill and embroideries of Junko Oki, this gives clues about my interest in abstraction and ephemerality in nature
