Groundlings Theatre

Groundlings Theatre is a theatre company and drama school, firmly rooted in its community. Based in Portsmouth and operated by registered charity, The Groundlings Theatre Trust, we can be found in one of the top 11% most deprived council wards in the country. We are committed to identifying and supporting the needs of our community by providing numerous opportunities for participants to upskill themselves, rediscover former passions and meet like-minded people and avoid social isolation. We ensure the safety and upkeep of a historic Grade II* listed building formerly known as the Old Beneficial School and as the only professional producing theatre in the city, we strive to provide a rich mixture of cultural experiences alongside a dedicated engagement and participation programme that celebrates and cultivates our local community. Our mission is defined by our motto, ‘Create, inspire, achieve’, and this remains at the heart of all our endeavours.
