Accompany me on the iconic South Downs or streets of bohemian Brighton (or London) for a half or full day improving your photographic skills, whether on a DSLR, point-and-shoot or smartphone.
Depending on your ability and what you want to get out of your time with me, I'll create something completely bespoke for you.
This may include some or all of the following -
Discussing what kind of photography you'd like to focus on (landscape, nature, city, street, travel, portraiture) and where you'd like to shoot it. I know some fantastic locations in Sussex and London to fill your photographic boots at any time of year!
Meeting at a prearranged spot (or I can pick you up from a convenient train station) and spending the next few hours immersed in shooting your subject/s, with me at hand to gently guide and advise you all the way.
Mastering your camera - from beginner to advanced skills.
Understanding exposure, shutter speed, aperture, depth of field etc.
Constructive critique of your photographs.
Learning how to download, edit and archive your photos (this can be done online).
A short and inspiring 'tutorial' showing you the work of some of the great photographers and, through their work, learning about composition, light, exposure, portraiture, landscape, street and travel photography (can be done online).
Setting you specific photo assignments.

Some feedback from recent courses -
I have to say I am so pleased with the way you have got Meg really engaged with photography. I am really, really impressed with her new eye for subject, light and composition. Thank you.

I really loved seeing your work and examples of the photographic greats- really helped to inspire and teach. The best three things about the course:
1. Your style of teaching- totally clear, not intimidating, relaxed and fun - made it an absolute pleasure
2. Magical setting
3. Being pushed out of my comfort zone
Lauren Dorman, Marrakech workshop
My daughter had an enormous amount of fun, while learning a great deal about how to take photographs, frame a view and think about what she was trying to show and why. Its a huge help for both her future GCSE in art or photography and also just great for her everyday pleasure. Many thanks for a great course!
Min, parent
Can I just say I'm blown away by the quality of their work! There are some INCREDIBLE shots there. Thank you so much for what is clearly a magical course, keep up the good work.

Thank you for being such an inspiration and helping me better define my photographic voice. Your reference to, and reverence for iconic photographers old and new as we learnt from their work - this was powerful. You have huge personal attributes that makes the learning process pleasurable for students - approachable, expert, not in the slightest egotistical, charming, friendly.
Trevor Dahl, Marrakech workshop
He loved it and is so much more engaged with taking photos now - puts much more thought into his shots! And he's very keen learning more with you!
Rebecca, parent
You have a wonderful manner, very gracious with your time and encouraging of each of our abilities. I feel very fortunate to have had your continuous support and encouragement. I have a greater understanding of composition, framing, depth of field and will give more thought when taking photos and applying the basic rules.
Fiona Mulvaney, Marrakech workshop
It was great. We were inspired by famous photographers to try out different techniques: abstract, documentary, portraits, etc, and some technical things too. I learned a lot, and it was a lot of fun too. I especially enjoyed doing street photography and trying out different lighting for portraits with studio lights. Karoki really helped me understand how to take a great photograph.
Maya, teenage student
I feel that I now have a much greater appreciation of composition and exposure, which will help me to make much more interesting photographs in the future.Thank you for all the terrific advice and encouragement. I have been energized by the whole experience.
Pony Burridge, Marrakech workshop
Karoki is wonderfully open and encouraging in teaching and gentle and constructive in critiquing. The workshop perfectly balanced theory and practice, technique and creativity. An absolute beginner, I learned so much about the art and craft of photography.
