A SUMMARY
This group of pupils will have the opportunity to undertake a complete year of Waldorf curriculum as part of a parent-led initiative in Forest Row. This listing represents the 'main lesson' which addresses the developmental situation of an adolescent and all of the lessons are oriented towards the growing sense of self and social dynamics that are growing at that time. This phase of life is characterised by a readiness to move beyond previous forms of authority and take ownership of their own experience. During this year the curriculum will speak to the challenges and opportunities of discovery that are opening up for each individual. During this year the lessons and activities will empower the pupils in their drive for independence by encouraging initiative taking as well as the appreciation of new ideas. Pupils will learn to challenge their former attitudes and assumptions in a logical way and begin to formulate new views of the world. The group will come together on three days each week during term times. The terms are divided into Main Lesson blocks of approximately three weeks. Each Main Lesson block will focus on a particular theme but are typically interdisciplinary learning experiences. The Main Lesson Topics will be updated during the course of the year. A Journey into Independence The first Main Lesson introduces the social upheavals of the English civil war and the American and French revolutions. The second Main Lesson will focus on human anatomy, especially the muscular and skeletal systems. The third Main Lesson will be focused on Geography and will look at the geometry of Africa and South America. The Class 8 Project, which is a self-directed project of the student's choice is ongoing during the Winter Term and will culminate in a presentation to peers and parents. Other Main Lessons include: The Industrial Revolution 20th Century History The Chemistry of Food Air and Fluid Dynamics
