A SUMMARY
***Please contact me if you're interested in this course - I have some flexibility on dates at present.*** ***Also if you're interested in 1-to-1, small group or adult courses, please check out https://www.eequ.org/experience/916.*** This is a 5-day or 6-day introduction to photography for 12-17 year olds, with an emphasis on having fun while learning the basics of photography and finding an outlet for creative expression. It will suit beginners as well as those with some experience of using a camera. Over the 5 or 6 days (2.5 hours each day), we will learn about landscape & nature photography, portraiture, street photography & reportage ... along with the basics of how to handle a camera, camera settings, exposure & composition. Each lesson comprises an inspiring slideshow where we look at and learn from the work of some of the great photographers (and that of our students!) followed by a practical photo assignment, mostly outdoors. -- x -- Some feedback from my recent course - Can I just say I'm blown away by the quality of their work! There are some INCREDIBLE shots there. Thank you so much for what is clearly a magical course, keep up the good work. Lee, Oct 2020 Thank you so much for giving of yourself so generously the last 6 weeks. It is obvious both how much you put into the course and how much the students received. I have heard so much positive feedback and enthusiasm from the class and their parents. I hope that you can feel just how much they appreciated what you gave them. Sukha, Oct 2020 I have to say I am so pleased with the way you have got Meg really engaged with photography. I am really really impressed with her new eye for subject, light and composition. Thank you. Joanne, Oct 2020 My daughter had an enormous amount of fun, while learning a great deal about how to take photographs, frame a view and think about what she was trying to show and why. Its a huge help for both her future GCSE in art or photography and also just great for her everyday pleasure. Many thanks for a great course! Min, Oct 2020 It was great. We were inspired by famous photographers to try out different techniques: abstract, documentary, portraits, etc, and some technical things too. I learned a lot, and it was a lot of fun too. I especially enjoyed doing street photography and trying out different lighting for portraits with studio lights. Karoki really helped me understand how to take a great photograph. Maya, Oct 2020 He loved it and is so much more engaged with taking photos now - puts much more thought into his shots! And he's very keen learning more with you! Rebecca, Oct 2020 Really love the work and look forward to block 2! Julian, Oct 2020
About your mentor
Karoki Lewis

My website - www.karokilewis.com At the end of a fun-filled gap year following my economics degree, I had to make a choice - a Masters degree or travel photography. Despite it being a total leap of faith the choice was easy. For around 20 years I travelled the world, published 6 books on India, worked for the likes of the BBC, Geo, The Guardian, The Times, The Independent, Condé Nast Traveler and Time; embarked on a long term project documenting pilgrimages around the world; and won several awards along the way including Travel Photographer of the Year. In between I did a postgraduate diploma in photojournalism at the London College of Printing (now the UAL). Then my kids arrived and suddenly I didn't want to travel so much. I was commissioned to run a couple of well received travel photography workshops in Marrakech and in the process discovered that I also love teaching! So here I am in the midst of the Corona crisis, looking to share my passion for photography with interested young people and adults. I hope you'll join me on the journey.
