What we'll do
Changing Lives for the Better WYCP’s Summer of Fun program will offer children and young people aged 8-16 a variety of on-site and off-site activities to enhance their personal, social, and emotional development. The program will run for 4 days and 5 weeks during the school holiday, including two residential experiences. It will provide opportunities for young people to engage in positive activities while receiving a healthy meal at every session. The activities will include a wide range of experiences, and the program will also incorporate physical activities such as weekly group games and sports sessions. Off-site visits will be available, and when a trip has limited capacity, alternative sessions will be offered. The program will feature centre-based activities and off-site activities in local parks and activity centres.
About your mentors
Darren Simpson
Youth and Community Manager
Walton Youth & Community Project (WYCP) is a registered charity (charity number: 1057446) who work with children, young people, their families and the wider community in the Walton area of North Liverpool. We provide localised needs-led provision that evolves in the reflection of community needs. We have developed an expertise in setting up, developing and managing innovative projects with the help of multi-agency organisations. This approach has greatly benefited local children, young people and families. Walton Youth and Community Project aims to engage with young people and families from the local and wider community to: Establish, maintain and develop meaningful relationships Develop and increase opportunities and aspirations Provide an inclusive service, free from prejudice and discrimination Enable active community participation to shape our project Our ‘grassroots’ approach to engaging young people and families is a strength. Our service provides support within the local community. It is a user-led service allowing people to have a stake in implementing and planning services. We are open five days a week and offer our services over evenings, nights, and weekends to ensure we offer constant support to our users. Our mission is to provide a bustling hub of community activity involving people of all ages, centred upon strong values, good educational content and most of all, fun. Our youth and community workers believe that by working with our community on issues that matter to them, we can begin to make the world a happier and better place. We do this by: • Engaging with young people and families to offer support and opportunities. • Establishing and developing meaningful relationships. • Encouraging young people to have positive aspirations. • Ensuring we are an inclusive service, free from prejudice and discrimination. • Enabling active youth and community participation to shape our project. • Ensuring we are open at times young people need.

Residential opportunities
. As part of the Summer of Fun, up to 36 children will have the opportunity to visit Farms for City Children (FFCC). This program will allow children to immerse themselves in farming for a week, gaining a deeper understanding of food sources and developing valuable skills such as teamwork, social skills, reduced reliance on technology, and healthy eating habits. Through immersive activities across five days, children will develop soft skills such as communication, confidence, compassion, courage, curiosity, connection, conservation, community, and collaboration. Additionally, there will be a five-day residential trip to Playaway Eshton Grange, where young people will participate in stargazing, experience the Persoid meteor shower, learn life skills, engage in healthy cooking and sports, and be surrounded by nature throughout the week. Those attending the residential must be known to the project prior to HAF
