A summary
This is great for parents, young people, and volunteers who want an introduction to the Forest School ethos. It usually takes four days of training and completing a simple e-portfolio. This practical course gives a good ’taste’ of Forest School. Advertised L1 courses are the first four L2/ L3 training days. Different course models are available. Please get in touch with us if you would like us to run this in your setting for a group of adults. It could be presented as a set of twilights. We also have an option to train alongside one of our trainers.
About your mentors
Sarah Lawfull
Transformation through nature connection
We help leaders and change makers rediscover their purpose and realise their potential by training and coaching in and through nature. Our FSA-endorsed trainers work alongside FSA Recognised Providers and the local FSA-affiliated group, building an effective learning community to nurture and encourage our trainees.
Sarah
Forest School Trainer and Practitioner
If I'm not running my own Forest School sessions, then I'm helping others to become Forest School Leaders - what could be better than supporting other people to do the job I love!? I spent over 15 years teaching and teacher-training in British international schools around the world before returning to the UK in 2012 when I started helping out at her local Forest School. Since 2017 I have worked full time as a qualified, freelance Level 3 Forest School Leader, setting up and running long term Forest School programmes in Oxfordshire schools and I now train with Sarah Lawfull at Where the Fruit Is. When I'm not out in the woods, I can be found out on my bike, hammock-camping or volunteering with our local scout group – i.e. somewhere in the great outdoors!
How we train
This Level 1 qualification is taught alongside our L2 and L3 so that trainees learn with people who are training to be Forest School Assistants and Leaders. This enables you to quickly top up your training if you wish to continue learning. We train in small, person-centred groups at the beautiful Sylva Wood Centre. Most of our courses have monthly in-person workshops with regular virtual webinars to help you with your studies. Our course structure is flexible because we know life can sometimes become challenging. If a workshop is missed, trainees can join the next cohort. Much of our time is spent outdoors at the Future Forest Forest School site or in local woodlands and nature reserves. Our base is a modern teaching barn.
